Prepare the soil before planting

Habitat Function Type of work
Forest
Soil system, High-quality timber
Establishment of forest regeneration

Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

When planting forest plants, prepare the soil in advance. On mineral soils, use a forestry hoe or shovel, and on peat soils, a rotary hoe.

Why?

Soil preparation: improves soil conditions by mixing the organic and mineral components of the soil; facilitates the planting of forest plants; reduces subsequent competition between young trees and grasses; facilitates the finding of young trees in reforestation maintenance.
