When reforesting, do not break up the soil in the buffer strip of the water body

Buffer strips will be established and maintained along the banks of natural watercourses to maintain biodiversity and ensure ecological connectivity. The recommended width of the buffer strips is 5 metres on average, with an optimum of 1-10 metres.

Description of the action

Do not break up the soil or established chamber in the buffer strip of the watercourse by preparing the ground and, if possible, do not use forestry equipment. The buffer strip of a watercourse may also form a grassland-like community of mature herbaceous vegetation.

Why?

In the buffer strip of a water body, it is important not to break up the established chamber, so that no sediment or suspended sediment enters the water body. Trees may be planted in the buffer strip, but if possible without land preparation.
