Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

When planting, use forest plants whose seed comes from Estonia or Latvia.

Why?

Tree species have large ranges, and within these ranges, tree species have adapted differently to the climatic conditions of the area. Offspring of the same tree species brought from a distant region may be knotty, curved, have a small regeneration, or die out altogether when growing in Estonia, and may not be adapted to the local pathogens.
