Treat stumps in honeysuckles with a root-knot nematode herbicide

Habitat Function Type of work
Forest
High-quality timber
Thinning

Biological techniques and tools should be preferred to prevent forest damage and to control its spread. The use of non-biological plant protection products on forest land is only allowed in justified cases.

Description of the action

During the growing season (temperatures above5⁰C), treat stumps in honeysuckles against root rot with the biological plant protection product Rotstop®.

Why?

Root rot is a dangerous fungal disease that causes rotting of the roots and trunk of the tree, resulting in a decline in the quality of the wood and the death of the tree. In Estonia, spruce is particularly affected by root rot, but pine also suffers to a lesser extent. Root rot spores are spread during the growing season, but not in winter. The spread of root rot is prevented by the use of the biological plant protection product Rotstop. Rotstop should be sprayed on the stumps immediately after felling. It is best to do this at the time of harvesting. It is reasonable to use Rotstop in areas and habitat types (carbonate soil) where root rot is present. In the case of Norway spruce, especially in loess and fescue forests.
