Take the bridges out of the watercourses after the deforestation work is completed

Habitat Function Type of work
Forest
Living environment, Nutrient cycle
Establishment of forest regeneration

Based on climate models, precipitation is increasing in Estonia, which makes it necessary to establish and maintain a high quality drainage system and ditching to adapt to climate change. Forest drainage ensures forest productivity, faster carbon sequestration in wood, and also creates water-related habitats.

Description of the action

When the work is finished, remove the “bridges” built to transport the material out of the watercourses.

Why?

“Bridges” are usually made of round timber, or more rarely of logs. They prevent the movement of water in a watercourse (e.g. ditches, streams). They should be kept in the watercourse for as short a time as possible, otherwise flooding will occur and the surrounding forests will be damaged and may die.
