Restore damaged bridges, roads, and paths after thinning

Thinning

Based on climate models, precipitation in Estonia is increasing and winter frosts are shortening, making it necessary to build and maintain roads and bridges to adapt to climate change. Roads and forest pathways ensure timber transport with less damage to the soil, but also provide opportunities for people to move around in nature, harvest forest firewood and put out fires in the countryside.

Description of the action

Repair damaged bridges, roads, and paths within a year after forestry operations.

Why?

Forestry operations should avoid damaging bridges, roads, and paths, but sometimes damage occurs. Repairs should be made as soon as possible to maintain accessibility. However, repairing damage during wet conditions may worsen the situation. The best time for repairs is usually from May to late September, during dry periods.
