Clear-cutting

Based on climate models, precipitation in Estonia is increasing and winter frosts are shortening, making it necessary to build and maintain roads and bridges to adapt to climate change. Roads and bridges ensure timber transport with less damage to the soil, but also provide opportunities for people to move around in nature, harvest forest firewood and put out fires in the countryside.

Description of the action

Damaged bridges, roads and crossings must be repaired within a year of the completion of the logging work.

Why?

Damage to bridges, roads and targets must be avoided during forest management work, but sometimes it does happen. Damage should be repaired as soon as possible to ensure that others can move around. However, it is not a good idea to repair damage during the soft season, as the damage may even increase during the repair process. In most cases, the best time to repair such damage is between May and the end of September, i.e. during the dry season.
