Renew your forest with climate-resistant tree species

Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

According to climate models, the temperature in Estonia will rise by up to 2 degrees Celsius, this will not change the tree species growing in Estonia and it will continue to be sensible to regenerate clear-cuts with pine, spruce, birch, aspen and aspen. To ensure diversity and to create habitat, leave hardwoods and lime to the extent that they do not prevent the target species from growing.

Why?

According to climate models, Estonia’s climate will become similar to today’s climate in southern Lithuania. The same tree species that grow in Estonia grow successfully there. It can also be expected that the demand for Nordic pine and spruce lumber will continue in the future.
