Afforestation / reforestation

Afforestation aims to change land use from non-forest to forest land in a way that ensures the long-term sustainability and productivity of new forests, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

Preserve low-growing trees and shrubs (e.g., buckthorn, honeysuckle, bog myrtle, alder buckthorn, bird cherry, rowan) during afforestation of grassland and farmland to the extent that they do not hinder the growth of the target tree species.

Why?

Many shrub species bloom and bear berries, providing food for insects, birds, and mammals.
