Prefer planting on fertile soils

Habitat Function Type of work
Forest
High-quality timber
Establishment of forest regeneration

Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

For pine and spruce and, on fertile soils (site types), also for birch, give preference to planting. You will get higher yields, better carbon sequestration in the forest and better quality wood if you use forest plants grown from seed.

Why?

Forest plants grown from Seedla seed are more productive and have better wood quality. Future forest yields are about 10% higher for pine and spruce and even about 30% higher for birch.
