Install the nest box

Preserving and creating habitats for wetland species ensures greater biodiversity.

Description of the action

Install nest boxes in the forest adjacent to the proposed clear-cut. Clean the nest boxes of old nesting material (the best time to do this is in autumn or the second half of summer, when the nesting season is over, and in spring check that the nest boxes are empty, as small mammals may bring food supplies or hibernate there) to reduce the risk of disease and parasite infestation. It is important not to install too many nest boxes too close together to avoid birds not having enough food to raise their young. The spacing between nest boxes depends on the species, but should be at least 50-60 metres.

Why?

By placing nest boxes, you provide birds with easy nesting sites outside the planned woodlot.
