Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

A wagon ditch to drain surface water from the track to reduce the risk of waterlogging.

Why?

Logging changes the moisture regime of the forest, transpiration (or the evaporation of water through leaves and branches) caused by large trees stops, and wet and moist soils can become excessively wet, preventing regeneration of the clearcut.
