Waterbody management

Based on climate models, precipitation is increasing in Estonia, making it necessary to establish and maintain a high quality drainage system and ditching to adapt to climate change. Drainage of wet grasslands ensures grassland productivity, but also creates water-related habitats.

Description of the action

Avoid the management of temporary natural water eyes.

Why?

Temporary water eyes, canopies, depressions provide habitats and breeding grounds for a wide range of species. Management of such water holes can disturb the habitat. Additional buffer strips can be created around natural temporary water eyes to support the habitat.
