Thinning

Preserving and creating habitats for wetland species ensures greater biodiversity.

Description of the action

Do not carry out felling operations during the breeding season on known breeding sites of Category I and II bird species, except in stands which have been destroyed by natural disaster, if this is necessary to prevent the deterioration of timber or in stands in poor health as a result of natural factors, if this is essential for forest protection to limit the spread of forest damage.

Why?

Most Category I and II bird species are threatened in Estonia and it is important that they are disturbed as little as possible during the breeding season.
