Thinning

Based on climate models, precipitation is increasing in Estonia, which makes it necessary to establish and maintain a high quality drainage system and ditching to adapt to climate change. Forest drainage ensures forest productivity, faster carbon sequestration in wood, and also creates water-related habitats.

Description of the action

After logging, remove built bridges from water bodies.

Why?

Bridges are usually made of roundwood, less commonly from logging residues. They obstruct water movement in flowing water bodies (e.g., ditches, streams). They should be kept in water bodies for as little time as possible; otherwise, flooding may occur, damaging and potentially killing surrounding forests.
