Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

When planting, use forest plants whose seeds originate from Estonia or Latvia.

Why?

Tree species have large distribution areas, and within these areas, species adapt differently to local climatic conditions. Offspring of the same tree species brought from distant regions may grow in Estonia with crooked trunks, excessive branching, low reserves, or may not survive at all. They may also lack adaptation to local pathogens.
