Forest regeneration

Forests need to be renewed and managed in ways that ensure their long-term sustainability and productivity, as well as rapid carbon sequestration and high quality timber.

Description of the action

Prefer planting when regenerating forest with spruce, pine, and birch on fertile soils (growth site types). You can achieve a more productive forest, better carbon sequestration, and higher-quality timber by using forest plants grown from seed orchard seeds.

Why?

Forest plants grown from seed orchards have higher productivity and better timber quality. For pine and spruce, future forest reserves increase by about 10%, and for birch, by about 30%.
