Based on climate models, precipitation is increasing in Estonia, making it necessary to establish and maintain a high quality drainage system and ditching to adapt to climate change. Drainage of wet grasslands ensures grassland productivity, but also creates water-related habitats.

Avoid managing temporary natural water bodies.

Why?

Temporary water bodies, ponds, and depressions provide habitats and growing conditions for various species. Managing such water bodies may disrupt local ecosystems. Additional buffer strips can be created around natural temporary water bodies to support their ecological functions.
