Avoid ploughing in heritage meadows

Grassland management

Grassland management should minimize soil and ground damage whenever possible. Any movement on grasslands affects the soil and ground, so the impact should be kept as low as possible.

Description of the action

Avoid plowing heritage meadows.

Why?

In limestone-rich alvar meadows, avoid damaging established turf, as this can make the soil unsuitable for many soil-dwelling species. Soil aeration caused by plowing accelerates the decomposition of organic matter and leads to a reduction in humus content in the soil.
